Ryan Thompson Gunned Down over Misunderstanding

Ryan Thompson

Another violent weekend across the country has ended with three murders being reported.  Two men were shot and killed in Belize City and San Pedro on Sunday, while another man was hacked to death down south.  The most recent of those killings happened on Neal’s Pen Road shortly after nine p.m., when gunshots rang out into the night.  When the echoes subsided, a young father lay mortally wounded in front of his home.  The shooting is believed to have been triggered by an altercation earlier that day.  News Five’s Isani Cayetano has the following story.

A father of two lost his life on Sunday night in a deadly shooting incident that happened in the presence of his infant children.  Twenty-four-year-old Ryan Thompson was gunned down at the steps of his home on Neal’s Pen Road sometime after nine p.m.  Fish, as he was known to many, was making his way up these stairs when his attacker pounced with lethal precision.  The spray of bullets caught Thompson flatfooted.

“He was shot to the left side of his chest on Neal’s Pen Road.  We are investigating that matter as well and I don’t believe that at this time the investigator has any motive as it relates to that incident.”

Thompson’s eldest sister, Monique Hamilton, was on her way home when she encountered the ghastly crime scene.

“He was shot to the left side of his chest and right leg.”

While investigators are yet to determine a motive, Thompson’s siblings believe that he was killed as a result of an altercation he had with a neighbor.  That misunderstanding, reportedly over a stolen weed-whacker, took place earlier in day.  Unbeknownst to Hamilton, her mortally injured brother was being rushed to the K.H.M.H. for emergency medical treatment.

“I neva know ih eena di pickup back.  I know like when things woulda happen to he, he woulda run.  So when my sister, when I reach dah my yaad, my sista tell me go eena di pickup mek di man drop unu.  When I get eena di pickup and I reach by Bootsville, Pen Road, he stop di police truck.  Dah then I know my bredda eena di back ah di police truck, gunshot.  When ih turn ova, I jump outta di pickup.  When dehn turn ahn ova I sih my bredda shirt bloody up.  I dah like, “no mein, dis dah noh he!”  He noh fi, I noh fi sih dis.  Dis dah my bredda weh I love.  Dah my bredda weh always got my back noh care what, he always defend me.  I noh know how people could be so cruel and dehn know only he and ih two daughter dehn.  Only he and ih two daughter dehn live together and dehn still chance my bredda.  My niece dehn deh without wahn pa right now.”

Both children, ages two and four years old, respectively, were living with their father.  Belize City police are tonight trying to piece together what led to the violent encounter.
