Murder Victim “Shot Up” at San Pedro House

Scott Charles

The latest murder victim is a tour guide and fisherman from San Pedro killed within days of a shooting that left an adult and two minors injured. On Wednesday night, a group of men went to the Elliott sub division house of Scott Charles where he was with his wife and baby, knocked at his door and when he opened it, they unleashed a volley of bullets. Due to his deteriorating condition, he was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he perished this afternoon. His grieving family is reeling from his murder and tells News Five’s Duane Moody that three bullets found their mark on Scott, but a motive for his killing is unknown.

Duane Moody, Reporting

Just after one p.m. today, Scott Charles succumbed at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital while receiving treatment for gunshot wounds to the abdomen and chest. The twenty-four-year-old fisherman and Belizean tour guide was inside his house in the Bay Side area of San Pedro when someone came knocking at the door. When he opened it, he would be greeted by a barrage of bullets.

Voice of: Sherlette Gladden, Aunt of Murder Victim

“They were at home at the house and my nephew heard a knock and he came out to see who it was, thinking it was his friends and that is when he got shot up last night.”

Duane Moody

“So a group of men came at him last night at his home?”

“How many times was he shot ma’am?”

Voice of: Sherlette Gladden

“My understanding is that he got shot three times; two in the abdomen and once in the chest.”

Charles was rushed to the San Pedro Polyclinic before being airlifted to the K.H.M.H. for emergency surgery. But according to the family, his heart gave in during the operation and he was placed on life support until this afternoon when they were called in and informed of his demise.

Voice of: Sherlette Gladden

“He was put on life support and after one, he passed. Yes it is a shock because we just buried my sister five months ago. And after my sister, my other nephew passed away and now it is sad to know that we have another death in the family.”

While speculation abounds, the police continue their investigation into this latest homicide on the island. But who could have wanted Charles dead and would be brazen enough to attack him as he was at home with his common-law wife and their months-old baby?

Voice of: Sherlette Gladden

“That’s what I am not quite sure cause he lived in San Pedro and I’m in Belize City. So I am not sure what’s his life out there in San Pedro.”

“And definitely the family is looking for justice for his life?”

Voice of: Sherlette Gladden

“We would like justice, but we believe in God and we leave everything in his hands so that he can do what he has to do with whoever the person or persons is that did it.”
