Storm Harvey Coming to Belize Next Week?

Belize is in the projected path of newly formed Tropical Storm Harvey.  And we say projected because it is still early to determine whether it will really head this way. The weather system formed a couple hundred miles east of the Windward Islands, and may pose a threat to parts of the Caribbean in early next week.  While tropical storm warnings have not been issued for Belize, Harvey is presently being monitored by the National Met Service and NEMO. If it continues on its current path, the storm is expected to become a category one hurricane and make landfall in Belize on Tuesday morning with sustained winds of up to seventy-five miles per hour.  But as we said, it is still early to tell. Councilor Phillip Willoughby, who is also the coordinator of the City Emergency Management Organization, urges residents of Belize City to keep abreast of the latest developments and prepare to effect emergency family plans.

“Just stay tuned to the local met office in relation to three possible systems that could be heading our way going into early next week.  I saw the update from the ministry.  We don’t know what will be the outcome going into Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.  But hey, just please be prepared, have your family plan ready.  Have your business or commercial plan ready as we prepare for whatever inevitable is coming before us.  This is no need for us to be panicking or over exaggerating on the weather, but it’s on social media.  So I take this opportunity to say please continue to stay tuned to the local advisory that comes out from the met office and NEMO.”

A detailed weather report is coming up elsewhere in this newscast.
