BELTRAIDE Plays Employment Matchmaker

If you are looking for a job, here is an opportunity that can help you. BELTRAIDE today launched a talent fair to create an employment database to meet the demands of employers.  To qualify, you must be sixteen years of age and older; computer skills are a plus and so are persons with technical abilities. Persons with formal education from high school up to university are encouraged to register within the next two days. News Five’s Duane Moody has the following report.

Day-one of a talent fair by BELTRAIDE, through BelizeINVEST and the Belize Training and Employment Center was held today at the BTEC Offices on the ITVET Compound in Belize City. The initiative is the first of its kind for the institution and seeks to create a database of employable persons for which businesses can tap into. And the process is simple says Hiro Balani of BELTRAIDE, as applicants simply register during the course of today and the next two days and then the matchmaking happens.

“There are different units at BELTRAIDE: we look at investments, we look at training, we look at entrepreneurship and we look at exports. So what we are trying to do here is register a pool of applicants that will register into an employment database for us to better match with employment needs for talent. As you know they often look for different positions in the different priority sectors for investment in Belize including tourism, the BPO services sector; we look at agro-business, energy, fisheries, etc. So we are better trying to match the talent capacity that we have with the demands that come from investors.”

But who does it cater to? While the organization is not trying to be an employment agency, it is seeking persons with different education levels and different interest areas. Just today, an employer sought assistance from the unit to fill ten posts in varied capacities at its establishment.

“Today we had an employer that walked in to the talent fair and said I’m looking for these ten positions, but they ranged from people that do detailing of cars, to auto mechanics to then customer service agents, sales agents and even some floor managers. And so you can see with that example when the employer walked in asking for these positions, we want to help better fill those. So the diversity of skill sets is very important to us. Everyone is welcome as long as you are employable; once you have a valid social security I.D., you are sixteen years or older of course per the labor laws, you can register into the database and get posted about different investment opportunities that come up and vacancies that come up.”

Today alone, approximately a hundred persons made their way to the fair to take advantage of the available opportunities and register to the database. Neshanty Nunez is hopeful that she will meet the requirements for an available position.

“So you like the fact that this is providing you with an opportunity for you to be hired by one of these companies.”

Neshanty Nunez

“Yes.”

Duane Moody

“How difficult is it getting jobs in Belize?”

Neshanty Nunez

“Really difficult. I tried at Transparent BPO but my computer skills, like the typing, it is not that fast enough.”
