Family Claims Set-Up of Brandon Taylor for Recovered Firearm

Brandon Taylor

Brandon Taylor was cleared of murder for the second time earlier this year in the death of Kaylon Matura. Since then the thirty-one-year-old has been trying to lead a clean life according to his family, even briefly moving out of the city. But on Monday, police say he was caught with a nine-millimeter firearm and eight rounds of ammunition of varying brands. He appeared this afternoon before Magistrate Aretha Ford and pleaded not guilty. Nonetheless, he was remanded without bail to prison until his next court appearance in October. At his request, a family member spoke with News Five off-camera to tell his side of the story.

“He tell me dat he mi di work all day yesterday pah fi he step weh paat he live. He say he just gone pahn the Boulevard fu buy wa weed fi ease ih mind after all di hard work. Ih end up di meet one of his colleagues; di talk to he pah di Boulevard front ah dah person yard. Police pass, end up di see dem, stop, search he – deh no find nothing pah he – escort he eena di yaad from off the street on the sidewalk, search the yard, ended up finding a gun. They took him and the person he was talking to on the street; the young man lives at that yard. Around eleven last night, that young man was let go and he was charged for the gun. How will they charge him for the gun and that’s not even his yard – and they didn’t even take the other persons in the yard; only those two who were on the street.”

“Did they say where exactly they found the gun in the yard?”

Voice of: Jolene Bowen

“He didn’t tell me where exactly they found the gun because I don’t think he even saw where they found that gun; because they escorted him into the yard after they found the gun.”

“All he knows is that they found a gun…”

Voice of: Jolene Bowen

“In the yard, and they escorted him into the yard after they found the gun. It’s not like they found the gun in front of him and he saw where they found the gun – it was after they found the gun they escort him in the yard. My question is, how will you charge my cousin for something and he noh even live dah da yaad deh?”

Taylor has retained attorney Oscar Selgado to seek bail on his behalf.
