Roger Bradley Free of Burglary Charge

Roger Bradley

Roger Bradley has several previous convictions for crimes of dishonesty, but tonight he is a free man, after Justice Denis Hanomansingh set him free on Thursday from a burglary charge. Bradley was serving a seven-year prison sentence after being convicted of a 2014 home burglary at the Freetown Road residence of Luana Sosa, from which he was accused of stealing two Leap Frog computer games and three cartridges valued at nine hundred and sixteen dollars. Bradley was face to face with Sosa’s babysitter, Marva Williams, who chased him down with the stolen goods. But Bradley’s attorney, Peta-Gaye Bradley, argued that an identification parade should have still been held, that the dock identification used was not admissible without an ID parade being conducted, and that the first police responder to the scene made prejudicial statements about Bradley in court, namely that he knew him from when he was in prison and the officer worked there. Justice Hanomansingh agreed that the remarks against Bradley by the police officer were prejudicial and also raised the question of why the serial numbers of the stolen items were not listed in the notes of evidence. It was also noted that there was no mention of Bradley’s defence to the charge in the magistrate’s reasoning for the decision. With that Justice Hanomansingh overturned the conviction on the ground that it was not safe, exceeding expectations for a trial. Bradley had completed three years and two months of his sentence.
