For personal reasons, Mayor Darrell Bradley will not continue past 2018

Darrell Bradley

Mayor of Belize City Darrell Bradley is heading back to private life at the conclusion of his second term in February of 2018. He confirmed the decision not to contest a third term in office at an interview this morning in the Old Capital. For all the rumors about infighting in the Belize City Council, tension with central government and a mostly successful but mixed record, Bradley said his decision was about him personally – a chance for him to recharge his batteries after a hectic six years at City Hall, coupled with a thriving law practice and other interests. But his sights are now set on the national stage.

“I think the biggest concern is personal reasons. I’ve made it no secret – I’ve spoken to many people both in the party and outside of the party, and a person’s major priority has to be their family; it has to be personal and professional goals that they make for themselves. I want to make it clear that it is not that I am leaving politics; I aspire to hopefully someday serve in the House of Representatives – that is something that continues to be a wish of mine; I don’t know of the step-by-step processes with relation of that because that’s several years down the road any at all. But I think that when one signs up for a position like serving as Mayor, one has to know that their heart will be one hundred percent there, their focus will be one hundred percent there.”
