Attorney Dickie Bradley Calls Death “Unbelievable”

Hilmar Alamilla

Hilmar Alamilla, also known as David, has retained Richard ‘Dickie’ Bradley as legal counsel. He appeared before Senior Magistrate Albert Hoare in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court and was remanded until his next hearing on September fifth. In this video courtesy CTV-3 News, Bradley says his client and the deceased did not argue at any point before the fatal shooting. How Sosa came to be shot, he told reporters, was ‘unbelievable,’ and that his client could well be facing lesser charges when all is said and done.

“There was no argument, no hard talk, no nothing between them; they were friends. They were leaving together in the vehicle which was parked in the police compound when suddenly a shot rang out. And what we can tell, that is in fact the fatal shot which caused Daniel to lose his life. It is unbelievable, because they were friends and there was no kind of argument, beef or ill-will between the two persons, so it’s just hard to understand how Daniel lost his life in the circumstances. Clearly, there was a firearm or more than one firearm in the vehicle. From my inspection of the vehicle, you will see what in fact appears to be a bullet hole, which would indicate that a bullet exited from through the side glass. There were at least two persons who have assisted the police, in terms of Hilmar, who is popularly called David, David on advice gave no statement. But the charge of murder, I don’t think, when the D.P.P. looks at the available evidence – they may opt to change that charge to a lesser charge involving causing death. The issue of murder means you intentionally want to kill someone; and all the available evidence is that a shot went off accidentally or through carelessness or negligence; there was no intention to kill anybody, and this is just a very, very unfortunate matter that has caused the loss of life.”

Superintendent Chi later told reporters that they had in fact consulted with the Director of Public Prosecutions before filing the murder charge.
