Cecil Gill to Face Charges in Philip Samuels’ Murder

Philip Samuels

We’ll come back to the senate hearings later, but a Belize City resident wanted for the stabbing death of Phillip Samuels has surrendered himself to police and is being held in custody pending an arraignment for murder.  Cecil Gill, the prime suspect in the vicious attack of the thirty-one-year-old, turned himself in earlier today.  On Monday night, Gill inflicted a single stab wound to the left side of his friend’s chest during an altercation involving another individual.  Samuels, along with Gill and an unidentified woman were socializing with a group of friends at an apartment on Boots Crescent when they got involved in a misunderstanding.  During the heated argument Gill reportedly produced a knife and fatally injured Samuels, who witnesses say was only attempting to the part the fight.  While a criminal investigation continues, Senior Superintendent Marco Vidal told News Five this evening that charges are expected to be brought against Gill on Thursday.

“The suspect has handed in himself voluntarily around twelve-thirty this morning to the police, so the investigation is continuing.  We’re doing the relevant due diligence and the file will be submitted to the D.P.P.  So we’re hoping that by tomorrow charges should be levied.”

“I know that you gave an interview to the media in respect of this murder on Tuesday, but what can you tell us insofar as any new developments within the investigation?  Has the individual been able to either share a motive or any other tidbit of information that can be used a news update?”

Sr. Supt. Marco Vidal

“Well, as I said Tuesday, this arose from an altercation.  I wouldn’t want to go into any other details, I think that the most appropriate place for that is in the court so I wouldn’t want to go into those details.”

The deadly attack took place at the South Side Villas in the Port Loyola community.
