Toledo’s Juan Choc charged for Abdush Salam Murder

Seventeen days after his murder, police believe they have cracked the murder of Bangladeshi national, twenty-nine-year-old Abdush Salam. This morning, a twenty-three-year-old man from the Toledo District was arraigned for Salam’s murder which occurred on July first, 2017 inside his home.  Juan Roberto Choc from Jordan, Toledo appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser and was read a single charge of murder. Salam’s body was found by a tenant inside his rented room on the second floor of a three storey building on Orange Street. He was lying face down, naked on a bed with both hands tied to his back with a black belt. Investigations revealed that Salam left his shop at the Novelo’s Terminal to have lunch at his home and that was the last time he was seen alive. His body was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead at eight twenty-five in the night. Salam died from manual strangulation.   Choc was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until September nineteenth, 2017. He was arrested last Friday in Jordan and after a recorded statement was taken and submitted to the D.P.P.’s office, directives were given to charge Choc for the offense of murder.
