Where Was Breach in Procedure?

The inventory of obsolete battle dress uniforms, along with the detachable boat engines, was found inside a home in Orange Walk Town.  Mexican national Miguel De Jesus was found with several pieces of equipment and was escorted back to town where he led police and B.D.F. to a residence.  At that home, the team of officers discovered a large stock of items that had been set aside for destruction.

“I cannot say where the breach took place.  Indeed there was a breach in procedure because, as you rightly said, there is no way that those items should have gotten in the hands of whoever was stopped by that operation and it was a joint operation by the police and the Belize Defense Force that caught the items.  That is where we need to find out exactly what happened.  The police is investigating and I don’t like to speculate.  When the results come out then we would take action if we need to and I’m sure the Ministry of Finance will do the same as well.”

“Are you at liberty to share with us a little bit more about the operation which resulted in the discovery of these items, insofar as the area where these were first found and where the rest of the stores were found?  Can you share that information?”

Felix Enriquez

“I could say that the operation was done up on the northern end of Belize.  They do a similar operation down south.  Where exactly it took place, like I said, I haven’t seen the police report as yet but it was somewhere north of Belize.  The house that they found it, as far as I know, it’s in Orange Walk where they found the items.  So perhaps somewhere in that area, but to say exactly where, I can’t tell you at this point.”

“Isn’t it curious sir, that a Mexican national would be involved and this Mexican national, by all accounts, seems to also be a civilian.  He is not a military person, he’s not maybe someone who was contracted by the Ministry of Finance to handle these items.  Isn’t that a bit of concern for you as the C.E.O.?”

Felix Enriquez

“Of course it’s of concern, and like I said, because it’s of concern I am not going to speculate, I will await the facts and when the facts come to me or as far as the police know it then we could say exactly what action we should take, if any.”

“My final question to you, the fact that this has happened, are there any other measures going forward that can be put in place to prevent a recurrence of this kind of activity, if I may?”

Felix Enriquez

“There are always extra steps that could be taken.  In this case, I do not think that the measures that are in place are at fault, I think they were just not followed properly.  There was a breach in the way how it was done.  Exactly where the breach took place is yet to be determined, but the procedure, as far as the stores orders are concerned, government regulation with regards to how items are procured and how they are disposed, they’re in order.  Of course there are always people who will try to take advantage and you cannot stop everything, but when we discover what happened then that will be the time to act.”

The trio of men has since been released without any charges being levied.
