South Side Keeping the Peace

The police command was also on its meet and greet initiative on the south side of the city. Today cops from the eastern division south joined their Deputy Regional Commander, Superintendent Daniel Arzu in the areas of Administration Drive, La Croix Boulevard Crown Street and surrounding areas. We caught up with the cops on Holy Emmanuel Street talking to residents about their neighborhood and the work of the police. When we spoke with Arzu he told us that they got positive feedback and are encouraged by the fact that the work they are doing on the south side is seeing rewards.

“So far we are getting wonderful reception from the people we have spoken to. They are generally telling us that they are satisfied with the services we have provided and at the same time we are giving them the assurance that we want to be part of the community in order for us to live in peace and to better serve and keep the community relatively safe.”

“Do they have any other concerns about things like loitering, theft, anything like that in this area?”

Supt. Daniel Arzu

“Well, so far they are not giving us the indication of any loitering but they are saying that the police presence is giving them a sense of safety and we are giving them the assurance that we will continue to have our officers deployed so that the residents can feel much safer.”

“How rewarding is it to hear this kind of positive feedback from a neighbor where once all kinds of things were happening, and not good things?”

Supt. Daniel Arzu

“…very rewarding. Our communities are yearning for peace. My goodness. Our country is yearning for peace and this is rewarding for your community members to tell you that here we are feeling safer. But we will not continue to sit back and become complacent; we will continue this to literally convince our people that we are here to ensure that they are safe.”
