Police interested in communication between high-ranking soldier and one of accused

When asked whether the police department is investigating a string of text messages exchanged between the Mexican national and a high-ranking B.D.F. official while in detention, ComPol Whylie said he was unaware of the communication.  Furthermore, the police commissioner says that it would be concerning should the worn uniforms be smuggled into Mexico for use in illegal activities.

“Are the police looking at those text messages, the electronic communications which indicates collusion?”

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police

“I don’t know if the police have seen them, have heard them, have had access to them because it’s the first time I’m hearing of it but if you share them with Mr. Myvette who is the Head NCIB, I am sure that he would get it to the investigators.  You have them?”

“And then sir, specifically with the proximity where these items were found, we’ve seen where planes are landed in northern Orange Walk.  This is a Mexican national and given that there is a lot of drug activity in Mexico, is it a concern that these items may have been intended for exportation across the border where B.D.F. related uniforms would be used for lawless purposes?”

Allen Whylie

“I think you’re asking me to speculate in terms of what the items were doing up there or how they got there and I cannot speculate in terms of the purpose because I don’t know.  That is what we’re trying to investigate. But I would say that I would be very concerned if equipment of a military nature from Belize, like the uniforms, would get in the hands, over the border, of any criminal elements.  I would have to be concerned about that.”

Financial Secretary Joseph Waight has indicated that there seems to be a breach in the process of securing the used items and disposing of them.
