INVEST Belize; it is the brainchild of the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service, better known as BELTRAIDE. The annual magazine, which will find its way to many desks and coffee tables across the wider business community both locally and internationally, is used as a tool to attract foreign direct investment to Belize. In its fifth volume, the theme this year is “Belize, Your Innovative Hub for Investment,” which focuses on technology.

“We decided that this was the most appropriate theme because the companies that we are seeing more and more setting up shop in Belize is using a lot of creativity in how they design their businesses and more importantly how they deliver their products and services. So again it was just showcasing all the innovative companies we have in the country so far. Technology is key, whether it is the enabler to delivering the service or technology is the service that these companies are doing. Like I had mentioned, one company using technology via the B.P.O. industry to teach English as a second language to students in Korea or how government is using technology to make itself more transparent and accountable. And how we are modernizing; and the concept of incorporating technology in various forms in your business.”

According to Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Tracy Panton, the magazine is critical to fulfilling the mandate of BELTRAIDE and the country to promote investment—both foreign and domestic.

“Core to the activities of the institution and to the ministry is to promote investment and to facilitate new investment coming into the country. And so this is a tool that we use to sensitize potential investors of what is possible. Certainly that is the feedback that we have received that the Invest Belize magazine is quite useful to the investors. It helps them to understand some of the challenges and opportunities that are available. It helps them to navigate the process a little better. Ad so we hope to continue to expand our reach through our electronic mediums so that it could be available just at the touch of your fingertip on your computer because the more we can promote Belize, the more we can attract new investments to the country.”

There are many features within the content of the fifty-seven page magazine.

“Another feature is how Ministry of Tourism through its various statutory bodies is improving the aerodromes, airstrips in Belize, so that we can move people and goods more efficiently. We are featuring how government, again, is using technology to make things more transparent in the various industries, even Customs and Lands. Being efficient and being transparent.”
