Meet and Greet is Back with Marco Vidal in Charge

This afternoon, in the vicinity of North Creek, personnel from Eastern Division South, led by Senior Superintendent Marco Vidal, met with residents of the area on an individual basis.  The customary Meet and Greet on Wednesdays is a first for Vidal who formally took over the helm of the jurisdiction on Saturday.  Up until recently the neighborhood has been fairly quiet, that was until Sunday night when gunfire erupted in the area.  Today’s session served to acquaint members of the community with the new commander.  He told the media that the reception so far has been very welcoming.

“We realize that this area, not this specific area here but the immediate area we have been experiencing some incidents.  So we have decided to visit this area to get an appreciation from the community as to how they feel with the police and their presence because we are in the process of formulating our strategy.  And in order for us to properly formulate our strategy we need to get a feel on the ground as to how the residents feel and then incorporate whatever they share with us in their strategy.”

“Okay, we heard that a number of shots, as many as ten shots were fired on North Creek on Sunday night.  Is that something that you all are looking into in this meet and greet?”

Sr. Supt Marco Vidal

“Right.  Well the purpose of this Meet and Greet is to get as much information as we can so we can understand the problem better.  Of course, there are other means by which we will try to get direct information as it pertains to those incidents.  But the most important thing is for us to understand what the residents want and how we move forward from here.”

“This is your first Meet and Greet, at least in Belize City, as far as we know.  Can you share with us what the experience has been like briefly, in terms of being able to meet these individuals in this particular neighborhood?”

Sr. Supt Marco Vidal

“I think the visits have been very welcoming.  The residents have been very receptive.  We have had very good responses in terms of what they would like to see in their community and I think that that is crucial because that is what we are looking for in order for us to properly formulate our strategy.”
