The real reason why Gaspar Vega returned to House

Friday’s appearance in the House of Representatives broke a personal streak for Orange Walk North area representative Gaspar Vega which dates back to August of 2016.  He lost his powerful Ministry of Natural Resources and later Agriculture after a number of scandals involving sale and transfer of lands to his family members were revealed.  Vega has not spoken publicly since then, but is that because he is too embarrassed to do so?  And why make an appearance on a day that was not especially full of urgent business?  Vega’s rival Ramon Cervantes Junior has his own ideas, and on Monday he told us that he thinks that Prime Minister Dean Barrow may have been the one who forced Vega’s hand.

“I think those absences are a total disrespect to the constituents of Orange Walk North, to his colleagues in the House of Representatives and to the Prime Minister himself. And he has probably absented himself because of embarrassment that he was removed from a Ministerial position, especially from Lands. He was a man that’s accustomed to wielding this – so much power, humongous power with which he intimidated people and that has been taken away from him, and I guess that that’s an embarrassment. And the fact now that he showed up, at least for a little while, I do believe that it has to do with the fact that the Prime Minister is now the Minister of Lands, and the Prime Minister has a lot of evidence on him, in following up on the revelations that the former Attorney General revealed to the nation, about the fraudulent land scams and the outrageous land compensations. A concrete example is the issue with his son, the four hundred thousand dollar land compensation paid to him based on a false transaction. So I think probably the Prime Minister has these evidence against him, and forced him to go.”
