Who Shot Raheem Bodden and Why?

Alejandro Cowo

But there was other violence over the weekend in Belize City. On Friday night on Raccoon Street Extension, several blocks away from the Eastern Division South headquarters. In the cover of darkness, a gunman took aim at a group of men, hanging inside a yard. Several shots were fired, but only one bullet made its mark on eighteen-year-old Raheem Bodden, who was hit to the left shoulder.  Bodden was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he remains in a stable condition. CIB Commander, Superintendent Alejandro Cowo told the media today that a motive has not been established for the shooting.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., CIB, Belize City

“Sometime after nine p.m., police responded to shots fired in the Raccoon Street Extension. As a result, they visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they observed Raheem Bodden with an apparent gunshot wound to the right upper shoulder. What the police has so far is that he was at his yard, at #15 Raccoon Extension when he claims that he only heard a shot then realized that he was injured. The persons in the area were interviewed, however, up to now we cannot establish who was the shooters or who was the intended victim as they were other persons inside of the enclosed yard at the time of the shooting. The person at this time is at the K.H.M.H. in a stable condition in the recovery section.”

“Any expended shells recovered?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“No, there was no expended shells at the scene.”

“Is Mister Bodden someone known to the police or anybody he was in the company of, known to the police?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“Yes his companions are known to the police, who hang in the Antelope [Street] Extension and the Raccoon Street Extension.”

In the aftermath of the shooting, several persons were detained, but due to a lack of evidence, they were later released.
