Civil, Criminal Cases Dragging; Police Non-Cooperative

Orange Walk Police were not available for comment today. Meanwhile, twenty-two-year-old Noe Gonzalez, nineteen year old Angel Cardenas and twenty-eight-year-old Mateo Pott are charged with the murders of Ramon Cervantes Senior and housewife Sonia Abac, who was similarly buried in the same area. As we told you, also accused is Manuel “El Pelon” Castillo. But the case has not yet reached trial stage and according to Ramon Cervantes Junior, police have not been keeping the family up to date on progress. In related news, a judgment is still pending in the Supreme Court for the defamation of character civil suit brought by Gaspar Vega against Cervantes and Fiesta FM of Orange Walk for airing the Castillo recorded phone call to Vilma Cervantes in November of 2014. Cervantes Junior speaks about both cases.

“As far as we know, they take the accused persons to the court and they adjourn and that’s what I know. I will say though, that we don’t get notice from the Police or from any official source when that is being done, when these guys are going to court. Sometimes people call me from the court there – they’re there on business – and say, ‘Monchie, the guys are here.’ So we don’t get any sort of notification from the authorities on that.”

“So, you’re not sure of when the matter goes to preliminary inquiry to set a date for trial, that kind of thing?”

Ramon Cervantes Jr.

“No, sir.”

“In relation to the defamation suit against yourself and I believe it’s Fiesta FM in the Supreme Court, filed by Mr. Vega; we know that went to trail and everything and a decision was pending at least at last report, but we understand there may be some movement toward settling that, can you say?”

Ramon Cervantes, Jr.

“No, I haven’t heard; as far as I know, everything that is the litigation process, the trial and everything, that is done; what we are awaiting is a judgment by the Chief Justice.”
