Akeem Guzman Shot Dead at Friend’s Home

Akeem Guzman

The murder count continues to go up in the west where a wave of violence has flared up in recent times. There have been five murders so far in two weeks and a sixth case in Teakettle though unofficial yet, could very well end up as a murder. But on Saturday night, twenty-one-year-old Akeem Guzman was shot and killed. The gunshot pierced the stillness of the night as Guzman was attacked in the yard of a friend he was visiting. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

Just after midnight on Saturday, the echo of a single shot reverberated through the dead of the night on Flamingo Avenue, off the Bullet Tree Road in San Ignacio Town. A twenty-one-year-old resident had been shot to the back by a lone gunman who exited some bushes and opened fire on Akeem Guzman. Guzman was rushed to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where he succumbed within hours.

ASP Daniel Iche, Deputy O.C., San Ignacio Police

“At about twelve-fifty a.m., based on information received, police responded to the information. They visited an address off Flamingo Avenue in San Ignacio Town where a male person identified as Akeem Alexander Guzman, twenty-one-year’s Belizean laborer of #8 Eighth Street; San Ignacio Town was seen leaned against the wall of a bathroom building in the yard with apparent gunshot wound to the back. Investigation reveals that he was along with a male person in the yard behind the house of a friend when a shot was fired, hitting him on his back.”

According to police, while the scene has been processed and several statements recorded, a motive for the crime has still not been ascertained.
