San Pablo residents meet with MoE; no update on investigation

The Ministry of Education continues its investigation of a reported incident of corporal punishment and possible child abuse against teacher Ednita Cocom of San Pablo Government School. She is accused of roughly treating a seven-year-old boy, the son of Thais Cowo, who retaliated by attacking her on the school compound two weeks ago. While Cowo faces charges of harm, Cocom’s fate is in the hands of the management of Government Schools in the district and today they met with parents, including Cowo, at the village community center. Village Chairman Javier Sabido told News Five that he thinks the meeting went well and that there will hopefully soon be a solution to an ugly episode for the northern community.

On the Phone: Javier Sabido, Chairman, San Pablo Village Council

“Unfortunately we had the situation coming up at the school and it’s a really unfortunate situation. As the chairperson of the village, I am really concerned about the students’ education and the village of San Pablo. I had to get involved because the parent body contacted me and visited me and wanted me to get involved and as a responsible chairperson yes, I got involved and as a result we had this meeting with the personnel of the Ministry of Education. First of all I will thank them for coming over to San Pablo and listening to the parents and I am sure they have taken note of that and they will address the issue, and shortly we will have an outcome; they will update on all these concerns and issues.”
