Drivers charged for traffic offenses in Orange Walk

The Transport Department continues to pursue drivers in an operation to enforce the national traffic and road safety laws. This past Friday, nine drivers of buses in the Orange Walk District pleaded guilty to various offences. Convicted of carrying excess passengers on a public service vehicle were the following: Shane Pollard of Maria’s Bus; Alfredo Rodriguez and Wilmer Lino of R. Tillett Bus; Josue Diaz of Sarteneja Bus; Wayne Grinage of the Belize Bus Owners’ Cooperative; Rafael Che of Morales Transport and Aldo Yama of Albion Transport. Jorge Rendon and Joel Armstrong pleaded guilty to failing to produce their respective road service permits as a driver for A. Tillett Buses and Armstrong Bus respectively. Each driver was fined two hundred dollars in default two months’ imprisonment. The Department of Transport says it continues to assure the general public that all bus operators and drivers who risk the safety of passengers will be held accountable for their actions and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
