Bail for Guatemalan Man Accused of Sex Assault of Minor

Sixty-five-year-old Guatemalan national, Francisco Levi Figueroa, secured bail from the Supreme Court today with the help of his attorney, Leeroy Banner. Figueroa is accused of fondling a six-year-old girl.  But there was heavy objection by the crown, represented by Jacqueline Willoughby.   Willoughby submitted that the court must take into consideration the seriousness of the offense, the prevalence of the crime and the likelihood that Figueroa may commit a similar offense while on bail.  Banner countered that the Burrell Boom resident is not a flight risk and that his trial is not likely to come up within two to three years given the back log in the court.  Judge Herbert Lord granted Figueroa bail in the sum of fifteen thousand dollars plus one surety of the same amount or two sureties of seven thousand five hundred dollars which he met by noon today. Stringent conditions, however, were placed on Figueroa. He was ordered to stay away from the victim and he is not to interfere with any of the prosecution witnesses.  On June second, 2017, he was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith on a single charge of sexual assault upon the girl.  The child reported to police that he touched her inappropriately on April thirtieth, 2017. Figueroa’s next court date is September eighteenth 2017.
