In Belize City, Construction Worker Arraigned for Murder of “Hard Rock” Bennett

David Richard Arnold

Three weeks ago, popular DJ and radio personality Andrew “Hard Rock” Bennett was gunned down on Central American Boulevard. Hard Rock’s murder shook the community because it broke a three-week lull in the murder count. Bennett was also well-known and highly spoken of in the music industry where he provided training for young boys from the community to learn the sound system hustle. He also had a passion for basketball and his home was where young people gathered for almost two decades, converging to watch basketball games on the homemade theatre or to simply listen to music. Tonight, a Belize City man is behind bars after being charged with his murder. Twenty-five-year-old David Richard Arnold, construction worker and resident of Armadillo Street appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer, represented by attorney, Michelle Trapp-Zuniga. Bennett was shot dead in front of a bus shed around seven forty-five in the evening. The shooter was identified as a clear-skinned man, slim built, wearing a black shirt with his hair in plaits. He was later seen running down Antelope Street heading into the direction of Curassow Street. Today an eyewitness to the incident reportedly identified Arnold in a group identification done early this morning. He was remanded to prison until August ninth, 2017.
