New book offers guidance for entrepreneurs

Story Picture
Since arriving in Belize eight years ago from Nigeria, Stephen Okeke has achieved notoriety as a sculptor, inventor and businessman. His latest venture casts him in the role of author…with a plain speaking self-help book that tells it straight to prospective Belizean entrepreneurs. “The Psychology of the Belizean Marketplace” may not become a bestseller, but if it helps even one young person build a thriving business, it would have been a success.

Stephen Okeke, Author

“Publishing the book is not just for economic reasons and I am happy that people are beginning to understand that. I thought that most of the publications in Belize seem to be going in one direction, and that is either it is culture of history. But social discussions, discussions that have to do with social psychology, social processes, they didn’t seem to have been discussed. So I thought, as a contribution to the social process let me break a new ground.”

Stewart Krohn

“Realistically, what kind of effect do you think this book, with its limited audience and fairly expensive price tag is going to have? Is it going to reach the audience that you seem to want to reach?”

Stephen Okeke

“I know it is already reaching the audience because the response I am getting so far has been tremendous. People have stopped me on the road, people call in to say thank you for how much the book has helped them, others calling to say they enjoy the straightforwardness, it hasn’t been said this straightforward. If it had been said that straightforward, then they would have understood it better.”

Stewart Krohn

“Stephen, for those people who may not buy this book, give me the single best piece of advice that is contained on these pages.”

Stephen Okeke

“The piece of advice is that Belize is a country of unexplored opportunities, untapped resources, money everywhere waiting for people to come and take, if only they would find out how to get it, they would know it is easier than they had thought it is. And this book gives you some of the fundamental steps you can take to tap some of those money.”

Speaking of money, Okeke’s book is available at shops around the country, as well as his studio on the Northern Highway.
