Police Rule Out ‘Serial Killer’ Theory in Corozal Murders

Dennis Arnold

Last week, in the immediate aftermath of the brutal double murder of Zeidy Orozco and Balthazar Lopez, questions were raised as to whether a serial killer may be at work in the Corozal District. Like Canadian-American couple Francesca Matus and Drew Thomas DeVoursney, Orozco and Lopez were last seen together; their vehicle was discovered separate and apart from their bodies, and the bodies were found together and decomposing. But according to Commanding Officer, Senior Superintendent Dennis Arnold, the manner of death in both cases is different, leading them to think that for now, the murders were committed by different parties.

Sr. Supt. Dennis Arnold, O.C., Corozal Police

“At this time, we are still investigating; but the information aren’t forthcoming.”

“So there’s absolutely no leads as to how they ended up there and the vehicle ended up somewhere else?”

Sr. Supt. Dennis Arnold

“Basically, when people would come in to give information, it’s just what they heard, not what they know for sure; everybody is just speculating.”

Reporter

“You were asked last week in the immediate aftermath in the deaths of Mr. Lopez and Ms. Orozco if their deaths and the deaths of the previous couple could be the work of the same person, has anything further been established in relation to that?”

Sr. Supt. Dennis Arnold

“Not so far; but what happened with the previous couple, their necks were broken; and with this recent couple, one of them got shot in the head and the other was hit with a blunt object, so the characteristics are certainly different.”

Reporter

“So that serial theory, for now at least, is not being considered?”

Sr. Supt. Dennis Arnold

“That’s right.”
