84-Year-Old Fights for Life after Orange Walk Stabbing

In Orange Walk, on Saturday afternoon around twelve-thirty, eighty-four year old Pablo Zenon Reyes was standing in front of his establishment, a tortilla factory located on Progress Street. Suddenly, without warning, one Nigel Guerra stabbed him once to his left forearm and twice to the abdomen with a kitchen knife. Reyes continues to fight for his life at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City where he is in critical but stable condition. But Police say they have no way of knowing what caused Guerra, who faces charges, to snap. We hear more from Officer in Charge Superintendent Selvyn Tillett.

“According to investigation it just seems he walked up to the man and stabbed him; no reason given.”

Reporter

“Did he have any interest of conflict or problem with the victim before?”

Supt. Selvyn Tillett

“Not as far as we know.”

Reporter

“Is there any indication that the person has any issues mentally, that kind of thing.”

Supt. Selvyn Tillett

“I cannot say, that will be [up to] the doctor to determine that.”

Reporter

“And does the accused have any other criminal history or background to your knowledge?”

Supt. Selvyn Tillett

“Yes, we have had him on more than one occasion here in Orange Walk due to his behaviour.”

Reporter

“Violent behaviour?”

Supt. Selvyn Tillett

“Well, you can say that, yes.”

Reporter

“But this is the first time he has attacked someone in that manner.”

Supt. Selvyn Tillett

“I know that he has had some run-ins with law regarding his violent behaviour, but this is the first time he has been arrested and charged for that incident.”
