O.W. Accident Victim Tells News Five He’s Lucky to be Alive

Einer Toloza

An Orange Walk man says he is lucky to be alive tonight following a traffic accident on the Yo Creek Road on Saturday afternoon. Thirty-six year old Einer Toloza of the Louisiana area was test-driving a vehicle that he had been working on but lost control and ran into the safety railing a mile from Orange Walk Town. The metal pierced through the front windshield, narrowly grazing Toloza’s face, and exited through the back. Toloza was left unconscious with potentially severe facial injuries. But News Five met him leaving the Northern Regional Hospital this afternoon on his own two feet, bandages around his face the only sign of his near-escape. He told us more about it.

Einer Toloza, Accident Victim

“On my way going to Yo Creek, I lose control of the vehicle; so I didn’t know how to bring it and I ran straight into the railing.”

Reporter

“You hadn’t tried this vehicle out before?”

Einer Toloza

“Yes, I had already worked with the vehicle, I always do the mechanic [work] for it but the doctor said the vehicle was giving him trouble, so I told him I have to run it, before I do  any mechanic [work] I have to test and see what’s going on with it.”

Reporter

“From the moment of impact, walk us through more or less what happened and how you ended up into the railing.”

Einer Toloza

“As far as I am concerned I don’t remember – the only thing I remember is when I woke up in the hospital. I don’t know… the only thing that maybe I run it and try gauge it off but it didn’t [respond.]”

Reporter

“What are the extent of your injuries?”

Einer Toloza

“Only my head, right here [gestures], my head burst and this side here [gestures] is where the iron went in the vehicle so it only scrape and cut my ears right over here. And I get this cut wound [gestures.]”

Reporter

“So any closer and it would have been far different?”

Einer Toloza

“The police guys told me that if that iron went under the vehicle, that was going to take off my head [gestures] or something.”

Reporter

“So you feel lucky to be alive?”

Einer Toloza

“I have to thank God that I am alive right now, or else I could be in the morgue right now or somewhere.”
