Washington Watches Belmopan, But is Not Recording

Alvarine Burgess

In open court, as well as during a recent testimony before the Senate Special Select Committee, Burgess has gone on record to state that the U.S. Embassy is in possession of an audio recording of Minister Edmond Castro.  Earlier today, we also asked Chargé d’affaires Adrienne Galanek for a brief comment on the matter.  While she may not have any knowledge of the alleged recording, Galanek says that the U.S. State Department is paying keen attention to the ongoing senate hearings.

“The senate inquiry with Alvarine Burgess where she spoke about the U.S. Embassy pulling her in and they having recordings of conversations.  Do you have anything?  Do you know anything about that?”

“I am not aware of Ms. Burgess’ discussions.”

“How closely is the U.S. Embassy following the immigration scandal, the senate hearing?  Because it does have potential security implications for the U.S.”

Adrienne Galanek

“We are definitely aware of the hearings and we’re also watching them as well.”

“Is there any concern at this point about security in Belize, the protocols that Belize has in handing out documents, nationality documents and passports?  Because the U.S. requires the security of our systems for people traveling from Belize.”

Adrienne Galanek

“Absolutely, I think you probably can go back to the comments that Ambassador Moreno made during his time here.  Of course, when people apply for a visa at the United States Embassy, of course that’s a concern.  Those documents need to be reliable and need to be correct and not obtained through fraudulent means.”

I wish the U.S. would watch the Lands Dept. in general, and two Placencia real estate peddlers who practice fraud, in particular.

Just the reason why US has a quota of visas for Belize, even Minister are not above the law when it comes to Security. Belize you should learn very well from the US policy.

i’m starting to like this, hearing that our scums can do what they want but are being watched closely makes me feel a relief. Meaning they can do with us as they want but from this yard nobody goes out unless uncle Sam says so.
