Farewell to Kaina from B.A.A. Prez

It’s no secret that the Belize Athletics Association and Belizean Track and Field athlete Kaina Martinez have been at odds, after she was not chosen to participate in the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. In a scathing letter earlier this week to President of the B.A.A., Deon Sutherland, Martinez says that she will not represent Belize for any international event under the current management, singling out Sutherland as the person behind her ill-treatment leading up to the recent Olympic Games. Today, he told News Five that the association respects Martinez and her decision.

“I respect Miss Martinez decision that is her decision. The Belize Athletic Association will go on. We will have representation at every meet that we are entitled to. It is unfortunate as I said because we recognize that she is a good athlete, a very good athlete at that. And we have never had a problem with Miss Kaina Martinez; she has had a problem with us. Singling myself out, well I am the President of the Association; however, I am not the association. But of course I am the face of the association being the president. But like I said before, there is no decision that I take without having the input and the resolve of my executive members. So I am definitely satisfied with whatever decision we made and like I said, we don’t have a problem with Miss Martinez.”

Knowing how Belize operates, I do believe you all had something in her not being selected, however; things happen for. a reason and I’m sure there is another country out there that is willing to accept her talents.

IT IS A SHAME…IT IS HIGH TIME THAT WE GET FORMER ATHLETES TO REPRESENT US…MANY REPRESENTATIVES HAVE NOT EVEN PLAYED THE SPORT AND ARE NOT ACTIVE IN SPORTS…IF YOU NEVER PLAYED, THEN YOU SHOULD NEVER BE IN ADMINISTRATION OF A SPORT…WE ARE ALL IN FOR KAINA…SHE DESERVES BETTER…ALL TRACK ATHLETES SHOULD PROTEST…LET US GET RID OF HYPOCRISY, BIGOTRY AND RACISM…
