Why Did Baby Ricardo Quintero Die in Independence?

There is a disturbing report of the death of a five-month-old baby in the south.  The newborn boy died on March third, under rather mysterious circumstances.  It is believed that baby Ricardo Quintero died after being administered the wrong medication at a private health center in Independence village.  That Friday morning, the lifeless body of the child was transported to the Independence Polyclinic by local police, in the company of his parents.  The infant’s death was the subject of a brief investigation conducted by personnel from the Public Health Department.  The results of that inquiry, we understand, have been passed on to Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero for further instructions.    Earlier today, we spoke by phone with Eugenie Gabourel, the administrator at the Independence Polyclinic.

On the Phone: Eugenie Gabourel, Administrator, Independence Polyclinic

“On March third, a baby, Quintero, was brought into the Independence Polyclinic about five or six o’clock in the morning, along with the police, dead.  So he died on arrival at the Independence Polyclinic.”

Duane Moody

“Was an investigation done into the cause of death of this baby?”

On the Phone: Eugenie Gabourel

“Absolutely.  The investigation started on March seventh and lasted for about three days by the Public Health Nurse.  All relevant information was gathered and was forwarded to the Director of Health Services at the Ministry of Health.

It was clear…we received the death certificate which stated acute respiratory failure.”

Duane Moody

“Did the baby go to the clinic prior to that day suffering from any respiratory illnesses for which he was treated?”

On the Phone: Eugenie Gabourel

“Not at Independence Polyclinic. That baby was a private client, so the first time we saw that baby at our clinic was the morning the police and the parents brought in that baby.”
