Did some teachers get their honorarium for Easter?
Officially, according to the Ministry of Education, the million-dollar honorarium for non-striking teachers has not been issued as planned for before the Easter break because it has not gotten the list of teachers that would qualify. But unofficially, News Five has received reports that some payments were made to teachers in an attempt to secure their vote at the convention against favoured candidate Elena Smith. It is something the Teachers’ Union and its outgoing president has been hearing as well. Palacio says they are continuing to monitor.
Luke Palacio, National President, B.N.T.U.
“We’ve not gotten any official position; we are still monitoring that situation, we are still asking questions, because we are told that some of that money has been disbursed but we have no proof. So definitely that is something we will continue to monitor, and I am certain that our membership at this convention will be discussing that matter as well.”
