Multiple Shootings Reported Countrywide
Several other persons remain critically injured at medical facilities across the country following separate shooting incidents on Saturday in the west and south. The first shooting took place near the Eight and Eight Restaurant on Bishop Martin Street in San Elena. Police, who responded to reports of shots fired in the area, would discover a gravely injured Deon Gongora lying in a pool of his own blood. The twenty-seven-year-old had been shot to the head and mouth. He was rushed to the nearest hospital before being transferred to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan where he is clinging to life. By nightfall, shots rang out at the corner of Orange and Cayo Streets in Punta Gorda where a Hyundai car occupied by Jordy Flores and Renita Jackson was targeted. Flores was hit to the right arm, while Renita got shot to the right leg when a lone gunman on bicycle fired several shots at the vehicle. In both shooting incidents, no one has been detained by police.
