Chester, Broaster Gone to Belmopan; Dezerie Philips Tops Eastern Division in July
Nearly two years ago there was a massive shake-up in the Eastern Division of the Belize Police Department, with three senior officers – Assistant Commissioners of Police Chester Williams, Dezerie Philips and Edward Broaster assigned to manage crime in the most violent section of the country. With that anniversary coming up, and Williams in particular having re-assumed control of media-police relations just a few days ago, we can confirm that he and Broaster are moving, effective July first. News Five understands that Williams is headed to Belmopan to a desk job, as Commander of Professional Standards Branch, while Broaster will join him as Commander of Operations. ACP Phillips assumes responsibility for the entire Eastern Division, as she had before the triumvirate was created. Of note that is Williams had crossed swords with Police Commissioner Allen Whylie last year on the matter of extra shifts for tired police officers and wound up sent on leave for a week. The transfer is thought to be possible retaliation for that public gaffe. Officially, Williams would not comment when we put the question to him this afternoon at a Police event.
“I think we’re closing in now on almost two years since you’ve been in charge of this area; there’s been ups and downs to say the least. And as part of your police career, there comes a time when you have to move on and that’s what we’re hearing – that it is possible you’re moving on from Southside? Can you comment on that?”
ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South
“I am not going to comment on that question.”
