Adjacent Football Field Will Also be Upgraded

Patrick Faber

Adjacent to the basketball court is a football field which is also planned for renovations. The project is dear to Minister and area representative Patrick Faber as it is planned to be done in the honor and memory of his brother, former City Councilor Andrew Faber. The Minister says he is rallying private donors and the Fabers’ Road community to donate and join in this community project.

Patrick Faber, Area Rep., Collet

“We are looking at May third for the ground-breaking for that facility that is going to be right at the corner of Fabers’ (Road) and this same street that the basketball court is on. We are hoping that it will then be able to serve both areas: the Port Loyola side of Faber’s Road and the Collet side here, as well as it could be a facility that the school uses and the wider community, because as we are saying we want things to be for everybody. I suppose that that facility will be possibly be the property of the National Sports Council, but the monies for its renovation have been secured through funds from the Sports Council but also from private donors. There is an entity that is operating in Belize called Peacework International; many may know it because it has partnered with the Ministry of Education on several projects including the financial literacy works that we have going on every year and they donated on behalf of my deceased younger brother Andrew Faber some seed money for that project some years ago. And now we are finally putting it together; we have developed a master plan that we will unveil at the launching, the ground-breaking on May third; and we’re hoping that all residents can come out to be part of it. We’re hoping tht the works can be completed in a few months’ time – we will put bleachers, of course; we’ll landscape the premises properly for football and we will build a stage, so all that work, I believe the total is looking at somewhere close to one hundred and seventy-five thousand dollars. And much of that money is coming from private donorship – because it is being named in honor of my brother too, I have committed to put in some funds and as well ask some people who are desirous of supporting his memory to join in that donating.”

The renovations to the field are expected to be completed by November.
