Marvin Flowers Shot Down Near Church

Marvin Flowers

The bloodshed spilled into the city over the weekend. A construction worker standing in front of a church on Jasmine Street was ambushed by a gunman on Saturday.  Marvin Flowers was shot multiple times and tried as he did to flee, he did not get too far and succumbed two hours later.  The general area of the shooting has become a hot spot for ongoing feuds though it is not confirmed if Flowers had been engaged in any of the violence or gang activity.  News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

The scarred pillar outside of this place of worship is rather unassuming.  In fact, a few dozen churchgoers may have stridden past these pockmarks on Sunday morning and perhaps paid no attention to the chipped column.  But it was here that forty-two-year-old Marvin Flowers came under deadly gunfire, as he stood at the entrance of West Side Assembly of God Church.  In recent weeks, the construction worker reportedly frequented the location where he was often seen on his cell phone.

“Di man mi deh round so di text pan ih phone, you know, and like he deh one spot all di while.  So like how I see it he di wait fi something happen.  But I noh really mi di watch di clock to same way when I yer di ringing, you know.  But from di time I yer like bout six or eight rounds gaan off, you know.  But as I yer di ringing I done know dat da something happen to same way, but when I sih di bright light I mi done figure out dat somebody drop, you know.”

Flowers had been blindsided by an unknown assailant who let loose a barrage of bullets in his direction.  Mortally wounded, he attempted to flee his attacker by running in the direction of Mahogany Street.

Flowers was struck multiple times, including a gunshot wound to the side of the face.  The incident came on the heels of a previous shooting within the neighborhood where, as of late, tensions have escalated considerably.
