House “Shot Up” in Belize City
Gun violence continued well into this morning. Personnel from the Scenes of Crime Unit were summoned to Electric Avenue shortly before eleven o’clock this morning, following an incident several hours earlier during which an unidentified gunman opened fire on a house. According to officers on the scene of the shooting, the concrete bungalow was targeted sometime around seven-thirty. Fortunately, no one was at home at the time. Of note, however, is that the incident occurred just a stone’s throw away from where twenty-one-year-old Jason Cortez was callously cut down a few weeks earlier. The neighborhood is also in the vicinity of where seventeen-year-old Everal Augustine was fatally shot last Wednesday. Despite an increase in police presence, there has been a considerable spike in gun violence in that community. Today’s attack left minor damages in its wake; the walls of the concrete bungalow were dotted with bullet holes. It is unclear who the intended target of the shooting was and police are still investigating the incident.
