Accused Driver in Brandon Bennett Shooting Charged; Accused Shooter at Large
On Friday afternoon sometime after two, twenty-four-year-old Brandon Bennett was shot in the stomach as he rode his bike on the Belcan Bridge. The gun man identified in that shooting is Lindburgh Clarke, but he remains at large up to news time. Clarke was accompanied by another man who has since been identified as the driver of the cycle; twenty-year-old Belize City resident Kervin Flores. He was charged with abetment to murder when he appeared unrepresented in court. Flores was remanded to prison until May ninth. Since the arraignment, Flores’ family has retained an attorney to start the bail application process via the Supreme Court.
This is expected to be heard by Friday of this week. Reports are that Bennett was riding his bike and as he was at the foot entrance of the bride, two men exited on a motorcycle from behind a nearby building and fired a single shot which caught Bennett to the stomach. Bennett told police that the man who shot him was Clarke – but police have since been unable to locate him. Investigations led to Flores, who, police say, gave information that collaborated some details of what transpired. A search of Flores’ home led to the discovery of a motorcycle which police believe was used in the commission of the crime.
