Business Senator Hails Return of N.G.O.’s to Boards
The Social Security Board has publicly indicated its intention, pending final approval, to offer its third seat on the Boards of both B.T.L. and B.E.L. to members of the trade union and business sector. That’s good news for former member Mark Lizarraga, who says it would restore a seat taken away by Government at the time of the nationalizations. He also made a request of Government to honor a previous promise regarding the composition of the S.S.B. Board.
Mark Lizarraga, Senator, Business Community
“I would certainly appreciate that move; as a matter of fact, the N.G.O. partners originally had seats on these Boards and they were removed from these Boards because of all these confidence issues as claimed by the Government surrounded the acquisition and the nationalization. So I would welcome that move, because it would lend confidence – not only in the partners, but I think it lends to more accountability and transparency in the way these entities operate. So I would certainly welcome that. While I have this opportunity I remind the Government of its promise to reconfigure the Board of Social Security so that the N.G.O. partners, in totum, would have more members than the Government partners; and that is a matter that is still pending.”
