Immigration Minister: I “Managed” Department, But Not Corruption

Teresita Castellanos

Teresita Castellanos, one of the witnesses in the Special Select Inquiry into the immigration scandal, testified last Wednesday that the ring of corruption in the Immigration Department started from the top – Ministerial level – right down to the bottom – the clerks and those who are a part of the document processing inside the department. Castellanos said the culture was one of corruption. So, what did the Minister of Immigration have to say about this? He says he is most definitely not one of the persons being named in that culture of corruption.

Andrea Polanco
“Sir, last week Miss Castellanos spoke about that entrenched culture of corruption. She stated that it started from the top to the bottom. The top would indicate the minister, really and truly, you. Do you think that you are – well you said that you are a little bit responsible, but where does this go from here? It starts from the minister to the bottom. How do you respond to that statement?”

“I hope Miss Castellanos had no intention of mentioning me as part of any ring of corruption. So when she said the top I hope she didn’t say me. I wasn’t here listening in, because clearly I was never and would never be involved in that and everybody knows that. Everybody in that Department knows that, from day one.”

Reporter

“Sir, Miss Castellanos said that Former Director of Immigration Maria Marin, herself, tried to curb some of these irregular actions but they had no support from the Ministry?”

Godwin Hulse

“What yuh mean from the Ministry? Because I could tell you that I was pretty much married to them. In a Ministry of Labour, Local Government, Rural Development, NEMO, Meteorology, Hydrology and Police; I was pretty much managed the Department of Immigration – my day started at eight in the morning and ended at midnight. So, please, Maria Marin can never say that I never intervened – or Miss Castellanos. Well, she never spoke to me because she is the FO and I deal structurally, C.E.O., Director. That has always been my policy and that will never change.”

Oh yeah Godwin, who you think she’s referring to? You’re as dirty as they come. She seems to be spelling out things and letting us read through the lines. I firmly believe she has a lot vested and probably has been “contacted.” Those of you who have a little know how and can read between the lines, know exactly what and by whom I mean when I say “contacted.” You want to know how honest and clean you are Godwin, get on that damn plane and fly out of Belizean airspace.
