Somebody Burned Down Calvin Young’s House in San Pedro

While investigations continue into the cause of the Victoria Street fire, what of the San Pedro fire in the San Juan area on Ambergris Caye? Calvin Young and his two sons were not on the island when the blaze consumed their home and all their possessions. In his interview with News Five, Young maintained that all electrical appliances were plugged out and that he believed the fire was deliberately set. Today, Station Officer of the National Fire Service Orin Smith confirmed to the media that the fire was indeed an act of arson.

Reporter

“Are you aware if anybody has been charged in that incident?”

Orin Smith

“No ma’am, I’m not.”

Reporter

“Could you talk to us in terms of what the investigation turned up to make you conclude that it was incendiary?”

Orin Smith

“There were evidence of an accelerant at the scene. Samples were taken by police forensic and sent for analyzing. The aroma, if I may add, was quite evident in the area that even workers on the scene, smelt it and knew right off the bat what type of aroma it was.”

Reporter

“So in a case like this, once you find it to be incendiary, then your report goes to the police department for further investigation?”

Orin Smith

“Correct.”
