Zachary Knox Jailed Six Months for Gun Attack on ACP Chester Williams

Zachary Knox

Twenty-year-old Zachary Knox, a Belizean/American, is serving the first night of a six months sentence handed down this morning by Magistrate Carlin Mendoza for shooting at Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams.  Knox is convicted for committing an aggravated assault upon ACP Williams as a result of a shooting which occurred on May twelfth, 2016 on Euphrates Avenue. ACP Williams was the officer who responded to the incident and based on a description of the getaway vehicle, he intercepted a Mazda car from where one man opened fire at him. That gunman was later identified as Knox.  In the trial this morning, ACP Williams testified he followed the black Mazda car to the corner of North Creek and Curassow Streets where he exited his vehicle.  He saw Knox holding a gun from which he fired two shots at him, but missed. ACP Williams told the court that he knew Knox before the shooting incident and on the day in question, he saw his entire face. But Knox gave a different account. He claims that at the time of the alleged shooting, he was at his girlfriend’s home on Benbow Street, in Belize City and that the police rushed to the house and beat him up. Before concluding, Knox claimed he did not do the shooting. He was, however, convicted and sentenced to six months behind bars. While Knox was the only person charged for shooting at ACP Williams, other persons alleged to have been in the black Mazda vehicle were Larry Wright, Devon Sankey and Justin Hyde.  They were charged jointly with Knox for the use of deadly means of harm, but they also walked from that charge.
