Jamalski Young’s Horrific Death; Burns to Death after Explosive Traffic Collision

A Ladyville man lost his life in an accident in Ladyville village on Sunday night. He was heading to work when it is alleged that a vehicle was reversing on to the highway and it hit the oncoming motorcycle. It combusted and the blaze claimed the life of the Ladyville father of one. At the time of the accident, the driver never stopped to offer help.  Word to News Five is that late this evening the vehicle was located and the driver has been taken in to the police. He is now detained and being questioned. Earlier today our reporter Andrea Polanco was in Ladyville following up the story:

“Ih say ma ah gwein dah work and he leave. So I nuh know weh weh happen after that because he fi reach dah work nine o’clock – nine p.m.”

But twenty-one-year-old Jamalski Young never made it to work here at the Sky Gas Station in Ladyville because shortly before nine on Sunday night, he was riding his cycle on the Philip Goldson Highway when it is alleged that a white vehicle reversed out of this parking lot and hit Young. The cycle burst into flames – and the fire engulfed Young.  This video captured the fire at its peak – one man is seen trying to take off his shirt to help put the blaze out but it was too much for him. A few others are around filming the fire on their cell-phones. By the time any kind of help arrived Young had received burns to his entire body.

Evadney Williams

“He leave from here to go to work and when he was passing between Lowe’s and Blue’s a vehicle from the bar – from the right hand side going downtown reversed and hit him and the cycle just blow up with him and he burned to death.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, he was on his motorcycle heading to work – he wasn’t parked?”

Evadney Williams

“No. He was heading to work. He work by Sky 24/7 Gas Station.”

Andrea Polanco

“Now, from what we heard, the vehicle never stopped to offer assistance. What have you heard on this front?”

Evadney Williams

“I heard that the vehicle didn’t stop. It just drive off. I get fi understand that even the back tire from the vehicle ketch fire as well but he didn’t stop to render aid to my son.”

Evadney Williams says that when she arrived she discovered her son lying on the ground – he had already died some minutes before. She said that while there were few people around – some of them witnessed the accident. And from what she was told – on lookers weren’t quick to respond to help her son.

Evadney Williams

“I just see my son lying down there bun up.”

Evadney Williams

Andrea Polanco

“His cycle was completely destroyed?”

Evadney Williams

“Destroyed and burn. Burn. Burn. Burn.”

Andrea Polanco

“Now at the time when this accident happened; why was no one able to assist him? Maybe no one was there – what is the situation with that?”

Evadney Williams

“People were out there. Lots of people. But they didn’t. I don’t know why but they didn’t help. I hear that two police were out there working by Blues.  My son Keenan see ah and he say ih burn up bad. He see only whiteness – I nuh know if dah ih bone or what. Ih helmet ketch fire and ih burn up bad.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, it appears that when the vehicle hit his cycle – his cycle burst into flames, nuh?”

Evadney Williams

“Mhmmm. It explode.”

Andrea Polanco

“Now, have you gotten any sort of information about what happened why your son couldn’t make it off the cycle after he was hit – perhaps he was injured or unconscious?”

Evadney Williams

“When the vehicle reverse that hit him – I get to understand the cycle blow up.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, it happened almost instantly?”

Evadney Williams

“Instantly – just blow up.”

Williams says that this fatal accident didn’t only claim her son’s life but also her family’s breadwinner – because he provided for the family. Young is described as an easy going guy who was a handyman around the home. Williams wants the man responsible to himself over to the police.

Evadney Williams

“He was a good son to me and thing. We play. We mek fun. We wah miss ah because anything weh mi wah fix dah my house he do it fi me and anything weh mi spoil he tek it right back down and fix it. Right now he bruk down the verandah and say ‘ma I wah fix it with two by four but see, he start it and he neva did finish it. And what he liked was sing. What he did to my son and run away from this accident.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, I take it you would like for this person to hand in himself to the police?”

Evadney Williams

“Yes. I want him to hand in himself to the police.”
