Integrity Commission to be Appointed Next Thursday

Following the appointment of the thirteenth senator by the N.G.O.s, the Office of the Integrity Commission will swear in its new members at its first meeting next Thursday, January twelfth, in Belmopan. The Prime Minister recommended the names of attorney Marilyn Williams for Chairman; Armead Gabourel; Lisbeth Delgado; Wilmot Simmons, and Nestor Vasquez; while the Leader of the Opposition recommended the names of Melissa Balderamos Mahler and Claudet Grinage. These were submitted to the Senate and approved on November thirtieth, though not without contention. Quite a few of the nominees are known political partisans, and Vasquez, in particular, who was nominated in his role as a chartered accountant is not so recognized as his certificate of membership in the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a requirement for appointment, is expired as of 2009. Vasquez subsequently complied with membership requirements, but is still not a practicing accountant.  However, Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Godwin Hulse, told reporters following the last Senate meeting that the Institute would be welcome to write him to intervene on behalf of their chosen appointee, Warren Coye.
