Donations Slow, But Kettle Drive Keeps On

Now the Christmas hampers to needy families is just one of the many activities that the Salvation Army does during the season. Those include the annual Christmas party for over seven hundred primary school children and giving gifts to children across Belize City. According to Major Joliker Leandre, it is all part of the organization’s mission to reconcile the Word of God with its daily action. But to put off its humanitarian work throughout the year, the Salvation Army carries out its Kettle Appeal. Major Leandre gave us an update on the fundraising drive.

“I can tell you it is very slow in some places. Like in the downtown area in the day time, it is very slow, but that’s the way it has been. We are confident that God will make a way. There are persons that are giving; some are giving cheques, some are giving cash. I am not in a position right now to give you an exact figure as to where we are. I think the accountant will be able to do that in due time. But for now I can say as usual, we are people of faith. We believe that we can always make it with God. And so with that in mind, we go ahead to do what we have to do.”

“Now that appeal goes through to what date?”

Major Joliker Leandre

“Up to the twenty-fourth of December.”

“So people still have the opportunity to donate?”

Major Joliker Leandre

“Sure. Our distribution through the Christmas Kettle continues through the Christmas period and even into the New Year. If anybody has donation, they can drop it at the office any time.”
