Carmelita Land Question is “Mischief-Making,” A.G. Suggests

Vanessa Retreage

The land flip has raised eyebrows, particularly in parliament where Hyde made his presentation.  When asked if she was aware of the situation, Minister of Natural Resources Vanessa Retreage told the media today that she only became aware of it when Hyde gave an interview to the media last week, ahead of Friday’s House meeting.  She says it appears to be an act of mischief making.

Vanessa Retreage, Minister of Natural Resources

“Yes it was the first time…actually at the House no because if I recall, Mister Hyde had previously mentioned it on a previous newscast but not in detail that he had gone at the House meeting. But those were the first times. Understand that when government issues these grants, the file as far as the ministerial responsibility for distribution of land…those are closed. So there would be no reason, unless a person says to me the issuance of this grant was as a result of fraud mistake or some error that I would go into closed files. So those files were closed. When I heard the presentation by Mister Hyde in the House, of course it caused concern for me. It is an issue that I would not have looked at had it not been brought to my attention. And still, it has only been brought to my attention…I see the picture of the documents, but that concerned public officers in the Ministry of Natural Resources was not so concerned to bring it to my attention so that I could address it. So I wonder what was the mischief trying to be created because brought it officially to my attention. I have only been privy to what has been said in the media and I have not seen the documents at all in relation to what was referred to.”
