Security Forces to Double Down on Securing Drug Airstrip

The coordinated response involving a trio of law enforcement agencies was fairly swift, but not fast enough to arrest the ensuing activity.  So, was their reaction timely enough?  That’s what we asked ACP Broaster, who said that they did not know the exact location of the landing strip.

Isani Cayetano

“Do you believe that the response of the relevant agencies, including the police, was timely enough based on when you received that information?  I mean you missed the plane, but in terms of being able to respond earlier, do you believe that your response was timely enough?”

Edward Broaster

ACP Edward Broaster, Regional Commander, Eastern Division Rural

“We believe that the response was timely enough given that the exact location of where the aircraft would have landed was not available to us.”

“Sir, do you all have any ideas as to who, do you al believe that it is an international outfit or is it local, or a collaboration of two?”

ACP Edward Broaster

“We don’t have any idea at this time whether it’s a local or a foreign traffickers.”

“Do you believe the discovery of these items at this location, following up on my colleague’s question, will there be an increased presence?  It seems to be an area of interest to these types of persons.”

ACP Edward Broaster

“Well I’m sure that efforts will be made to disable that airstrip again and frequent checks will be made.  The Belize Defense Force now has helicopters that they will be able to patrol some of these areas and I’m sure that measures will be put in place given this incident this morning.”

  1. Mike G. says:

Why waste your time and our money? The war on drugs is a joke, especially since we do not have the law enforcement capabilities or will to control it. If you really wanted to do something about it, find out who repaired the runway and supplied the aviation fuel. But then you might have to prosecute a politico and we are not too good at that.
