Gardenia Murder Suspects Charged

Nelson Zelaya

On Monday night, we told you that four persons of interest in Nelson Zelaya’s murder were in police custody. Today, two of those men were charged for the Gardenia resident’s killing. Brothers Lenford Samuel Harris Junior and Camron Douglas Harris were each charged with a single count of murder. On Thursday, twenty-seven-year-old Zelaya was in his yard in Gardenia Village on the Phillip Goldson Higwhay when he was ambushed and shot in the face in front of his young children. Police are pretty certain they have the gunmen, but they are very mum when it comes to the details in the case. Here’s what Commander of the Eastern Rural Division, ACP Edward Broaster had to say.

“The two individuals have been charged in the murder of Mr. Zelaya. The investigators are still getting more evidence to substantiate the charge at this time.”

“Are you all able to explain to us or give us any details as to what sort of evidence you have against these men?”

ACP Edward Broaster

“No. We are not able to do that.”

“Is there any motive known since the investigation has progressed at this point?”

ACP Edward Broaster, Regional Commander, Eastern Rural Division

“Yes. We know the motive, but we will not go into the motive as to why they killed Mr. Zelaya at this time, either.”
