Land Title is Only Permanent Solution, Say Farmers

The meeting that the farmers wanted did not materialize because Cabinet was in session. Additionally, they found out that a letter written to the Prime Minister following the cease-and-desist letter sent by attorneys for the Greenwood Companies in September never made it to his desk. According to Francis Sanchez, now that a copy is there, it is up to the Government to respond.

On the Phone: Francis Sanchez, Toledo Farmers Committee

“According to the Secretary all what we needed to do was to fax that copy of the letter to her again, then from there on she would proceed to the Minister, and from there on she would contact us again, get back to us and see what negotiations or what results or what advice would come through them – what would get done. So we are waiting on her, because she said as soon as she get that she would dialogue with the Minister; due to yesterday’s meetings they could not get that done immediately through because they had a meeting with Cabinet and thing. So we said okay, we will respect, and we will look after the answer for it any time today or any time. But again, we are still waiting to see what the result will be out of it; so I said, we are giving a chance to see what the Government can take its time to decide and to see what can get done. Although N.E.M.O. is there, looking after the damages to see how we can get them back to where they are their houses, so that it what is happening right now. So I am looking forward, that, yes, I am glad at least that is happening, but again, we need the most important part – to get that problem fixed, because that is very important, either or either, to know what will come out of it.”

Sanchez also told us that the National Emergency Management Organization is gearing up to assist the fire victims. Police, meanwhile, continue their investigations.
