B.D.F. Commander Updates on Hurricane Earl Relief

David Jones

When Hurricane Earl passed through Belize on August third the B.D.F. suffered substantial damage to their structures including the main store that houses the military equipment and also several roof and houses were damaged on the compound. The infrastructural damage was estimated to be over a million dollars. Well, three months later the B.D.F. are happy to report that they have received the funds for the much needed repairs.

Brig. Gen. David Jones, Commander, Belize Defence Force

“We suffered substantially here at Price Barracks, which wasn’t really known to the public. A number of the roofs for the family houses were lost, about eight of them. Our main store that houses our military equipment was completely torn off, so it would have been millions of dollars of loss if we didn’t replace it in time. With the assistance, I must point out primarily that the Prime Minister was instrumental in giving us the funds to repair our roofs in particular for our storage area. He has just recently released also the funds to replace the roofs for the families that were devastated by the families. So, I must say thanks to the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Defence for facilitating the recovery effort. We’ve been resilient and we’re recovering just fine.”
