NEMO Minister Says G.O.B. Cannot Help With Everything

Edmond Castro

In some communities, despite government’s assistance, residents are still living in squalor, largely the result of their own neglect.  According to Castro, if it were left up to some constituents they would rely on government altogether to improve their quality of life.  He spoke frankly on the issue of dependency.

Edmond Castro, Minister of Transport & NEMO

“It’s a problem that we all face with our people.  We have people within our own families that would sure wish for government to do everything for them but government cannot be the solve-all to any problem within our country, not just this situation here.  But what government is doing, I think, is a very good job in terms of helping these people to get back on their feet and give them a structure that they can dwell in and basically won’t get wet.  So I think that we are doing a good job, the best we can and we are hoping and asking the homeowners to do their part in terms of cleaning up the environment, in terms of trying to, if we cannot do the partition for you then try to help yourself with a partition.  But of course you’re in a structure that you should be able to live much better than before.  If you look at some of these areas, the rubbles are still in some of these areas.  We are asking them to try and help cleanup some of the mess and try to help themselves so that the environment could be improved as their houses are now improved, their living conditions and so if they do their part and we do our part for them I think we will have a better city and we will have a better environment.  There is no way that any government can do everything for someone, we need for people to work hand in hand with the government so that we could help them to help themselves.”
